The CSU Channel Islands Police and Parking Services will be hosting a personal preparedness Expo on September 21, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm in the South Quad. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the event. Preparedness professionals including the American Red Cross, Ventura County Public Health, Citizen Emergency Response Team, CERT, and various preparedness vendors will be on hand to provide information on making an emergency plan, and will demonstrate preparedness products. Products will be available for purchase or to place orders.
National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and schools. National Preparedness Month 2010 is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The goal of the month is to increase public awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and to encourage individuals to take action. Throughout September, Homeland Security will work with a wide variety of organizations, including local, state and federal government agencies and the private sector, to highlight the importance of family emergency preparedness and promote individual involvement through events and activities across the nation.
Being prepared for emergencies is crucial at home, school, work and in your community.
Disaster can strike quickly and without warning. It can force you to evacuate your neighborhood, workplace or school. It could also confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services – water, gas, electricity or telephones – were cut off? Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone right away. The best way to make you and your family safer is to be prepared before disaster strikes. We encourage you to: Get a Kit Make a Plan Be Informed Get Involved
