The Ventura County Civic Alliance has completed its updated report on quality of life issues in Ventura County. The study focuses on 12 domains of interest to Ventura County residents and is meant to inform and engage the community on ways to make our county a better place to live.

“This study will enable us to reach across historic boundaries and barriers to solve problems common to us all, and measures the effectiveness of these efforts over time,” said Rebecca Evans, VCCA executive director.

The 2007 State of the Region report strives to be a reliable source of objective, unbiased information about the economy and the quality of life in Ventura County, said Evans. “The VCCA believes that accurate data about our region will assist residents, community organizations and civic officials in shaping regional identity.”

The VCCA also is releasing the report to the public May 22 to east Ventura County. The East County launch is a breakfast hosted by California Lutheran University’s Center for Leadership and Values, Alma and Clifford Pearson Distinguished Speaker Series held May 22 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. in the CLU Lundring Events Center.

A presentation of current data on the 12 domains will take place at each location, as well as a presentation of public opinion data related to the indicators provided by Jon Sonstelie from UCSB Social Science Survey Center, and a panel discussion on the impact of the data and trends on Ventura’s local environment, social equity and economic issues. The 12 areas of interest are agriculture, education, public health, civic engagement, environmental quality, public safely, cultural and recreational resources, land use and housing, social services, economy, natural resources, and transportation.

The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of Ventura County was the study’s title sponsor, while the research sponsor was the Ventura County Community Foundation.

The Ventura County Civic Alliance is a volunteer group dedicated to promoting the quality of life in the county, primarily through engaging citizens in dialog on regional concerns and by educational endeavors. The organization is guided by a mission to promote a healthy and sustainable future for Ventura County through a balance of economic, social equity and environmental perspectives.
