Types of Aid
Federal Grants
Federal Grants do not have to be repaid (unless you do not complete the term of enrollment). Students must meet eligibility requirements and must demonstrate financial need. To be considered for Federal Grants, you must file a Free Application of Federal Student Aid (
FAFSA) for the award year.
State Grants do not have to be repaid (unless you do not complete the term of enrollment). Students must meet eligibility requirements and must demonstrate financial need. To be considered for State Grants, you must complete a
FAFSA for the award year. Application procedures for State Grants may require additional forms. State Grants are limited to California residents only and the funds for these awards may be available only on a limited basis.
There are various low-interest loans available to students whose total financial need cannot be met by grants or other sources. Most loans are awarded based on financial need and cannot exceed the
Cost of Attendance. However unlike grants, loans must be repaid. Terms and Conditions apply to all loans and additional steps may be required. To be considered for a federal education loan, you must complete a
FAFSA.
